Ralph Delbert Wollmann

Ralph Delbert Wollmann was born November 7, 1931 at home in Chaseley, North Dakota to David and Barbara (Kleinsasser) Wollmann. He grew up on the family farm. He attended school through 8th grade at a country school and graduated from Bowdon High School. After High School, he attended Valley City State Teacher’s College and returned to his rural school to teach prior to enlisting the United States Navy. Ralph served in active duty from May 1951 to May 1955 followed by his time in the Reserves from 1955-1989.

He was sent to bootcamp at Great Lake Training Center and was in the 519 Company, transferring to Mare Island Naval Hospital in California until 1952. He was later sent to Korea from 1953-1954 and served on the USS Dixie from 1954-1955, working as a hospital Corpsman. His proudest moment was serving with a medical team in Korea and aboard ship.

He attended NDSU College from 1955-1959. He married Janet R. Gilchrist on September 4, 1960 at Cando Methodist Church, Cando, North Dakota. He took the position of Hospital Department Director at St. Luke’s MeritCare for 31 years. He was a life member of the VFW Post 762 in Fargo, a also a Past Commander and Color Guard Participant. He was also a member of the Harwood American Legion, the NERA Minneapolis Chapter and the FRA Branch 273 in Fargo.

He worshipped with Pastor Salem at First Baptist Church, Aberdeen, SD. He passed away July 1, 2021 in transitional care at Bethany on University, Fargo.

He is survived by his son Brent (Melody) Wollmann, Sioux Falls, SD; Janet, Fargo, ND; brother, Willis (Jo) Wollmann, San Angelo, TX and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Ervin and James.

Memorials are preferred to the charitable organizations of your choice.

Funeral Service: 1:00 P.M. Thursday, July 8, 2021 at Calvary United Methodist Church, Fargo with visitation starting at 12:00 P.M.

Interment with Military Honors: Riverside Cemetery, Fargo.
