Robert E. “Swede” Isakson

Robert E. Isakson, 96, of LaMoure, ND entered his eternal rest on January 23, 2021 at the North Dakota Veterans Home in Lisbon, ND.

Robert, son of Ingval and Mabel (Peterson) Isakson was born on October 27, 1924 in Gladstone Township, LaMoure, ND. Bob attended grade school at Benson Corner in Gladstone Township and graduated in 1943 from LaMoure High School.

In November of 1945, Bob entered active Service in the 53rd AAA Intel BTRY, Army of the United States. He served two years overseas during World War II. He was honorably discharge from the Army on January 23, 1947.

He was united in marriage to Jean E. Janisch on March 8, 1951 at Trinity English Lutheran Church, LaMoure. They made their home in LaMoure, where they owned and operated Isakson Oil Company until retiring.

Bob was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department where he served as Fire Chief for many years. He enjoyed traveling to other areas to help put on fire schools long after he had retired from the Fire Department.

He was also an active member of the American Legion Post #19 for 73 years. He enjoyed the many events like the Fish Fry and Bingo hosted by the American Legion.

Bob was a member of Trinity English Lutheran Church, LaMoure.

Bob could be found at the Fullerton Steam Threshing show with his collection of his Stationary Engines. His prize possession was his 1925 Model T. He loved to teach the grandsons how to drive his truck and would always take it to the many parades around the area. He enjoyed visiting with everyone; he would keep you entertained with his stories and jokes.

He loved his family and his family adored him. His eyes would always light up when his children and grandchildren came to visit.

Robert is survived by two daughters, ReNae Alber, LaMoure and Cindy (Duane) Formo, Litchville, ND; a son, Kurt (JoAnne) Isakson, LaMoure; one brother, Howard Isakson, Williston, ND; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jean, two brothers, Barney Isakson and Dennis Isakson, and three sisters, Doris Siedschlag, Muriel DeBrito and Lenore Johnson.

His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity English Lutheran Church, LaMoure with burial to follow at Rosehill Cemetery near LaMoure. The service will be live streamed on the Dahlstrom Funeral Home website www.dahlstromfuneralhome.com on Bob’s obituary page. We ask those attending to please wear masks.
