Viola LaVonne Paulsrud, Halstad, MN, passed away peacefully with family and staff by her side at Halstad Living Center on Mother’s Day, May 10, 2020, at the age of 93 years old.

Viola was born on November 7, 1926, to John and Alma (Grimstvedt) Aronson in Hunter, ND, later moving to rural Halstad, MN. Viola attended Wide Awake Country School and Halstad High School.

Viola met James Paulsrud in Neilsville, MN and they were united in marriage on March 6, 1943 in Immanuel Lutheran Church. They were married 61 years. They lived on a farm in Herberg Township along the Red River in North Dakota and raised their family. They had six children. They worked side by side farming and later while continuing to farm, purchased Paulsrud Ford. They moved into Halstad, MN in 1978.

Viola was a “Farmers Wife” and she worked hard on the farm. Many remember her still driving truck not that many years ago. She was known for her baking at Christmas, especially her Kringla and Krumkake. She had a green thumb and always had beautiful flowers and vegetable gardens, along with a beautiful yard. She loved to dance, play bingo, and do crafts. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s activities and loved them all so much. She also enjoyed trips to the lake and Casino’s with family and friends. She also sold Watkin’s products by word of mouth, she never went door to door.

Viola was a member of Eastern Star, Herberg Homemakers, Garden Club, Birthday Club, Granny Club, an FHA Advisor, and a 4-H Leader. She also volunteered at the Halstad Living Center, formerly Halstad Lutheran Memorial Home. She was a member of Halstad Lutheran Church and formerly Immanuel Lutheran Church. Viola moved into Heritage House in 2016 following her 90th birthday. In September of 2017 Viola moved into the Halstad Living Center.

Viola is survived by her daughters, Wanda (Rolly) Wall, Harwood, ND; and Nancy (Fiancé, Joe Flood) Paulsrud, Fargo, ND; son, Randy (Lorie) Paulsrud, Halstad, MN; daughter-in-law, LuVerne Paulsrud, Hillsboro, ND; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; 1 sister-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
