I just read Rep. Kevin Cramer's editorial (published April 17) in which he tries to put a very positive spin on President Trump's federal income tax bill passed last year.

Conspicuously absent from Cramer's piece was any discussion of the effect of the Trump income tax bill on the federal budget deficit.

Some sources, including the Congressional Budget Office, have estimated the Trump tax bill will increase the federal budget deficit over the next ten years by as much as $1.4 trillion.

Republicans used to be adamantly opposed to increases in the national debt, so it seems quite strange that Cramer doesn't even mention that rather important downside of this tax bill.
