Letter: Farmers will reap what they sow

Reap what you sow. If you sow nationalism and parochialism by electing a president who carries that torch, is it surprising the consequences reach back to you?...

Reap what you sow. If you sow nationalism and parochialism by electing a president who carries that torch, is it surprising the consequences reach back to you?

Erecting a trade wall around America has historically proven to be a failure. Tariffs create a four-headed monster. First, they constrain markets. Second, they operate like a tax, as Americans pay more for higher priced goods. Third, artificially higher tariff prices drive inflation and higher interest rates. Fourth, non-budgeted tax dollars are channeled to subsidize producers affected by the tariff.

I'm not a farmer, but respect those who are. I grew up in farm country and my family farmed since the 1700s. However, looking outside in, I'm paying too high a price for your voting decision.
