UPDATE: This column has been edited to add comment from Chris Berg.

MINOT, N.D. — Earlier this week we learned that there was some friction between conservative television host Chris Berg and his employers at Fargo-based television station Valley News Live.

Gray Television owns Valley News Live. They've issued a vaccine mandate for their employees. Berg, reportedly, didn't like the mandate.

This morning, the news is that Berg is out.

I called Ike Walker, who is the general manager of Valley News Live, to confirm if Berg's relationship with the station had ended.

"We don't comment on stuff like that," Walker told me, angrily. He hung up before I could ask a follow-up question.

Berg, however, did confirm his departure to me.

"Rob in [meetings] and yes can confirm I am no longer at VNL," he told me in a text message after this story was originally published. "I am starting The Chris Berg Show on AM1100 The Flag starting Monday at 4-5 pm."

Berg has since changed the banner image and biography on his Twitter account to remove Valley News Live and add in his new position with The Flag.

Vaccine mandates have been fraught territory for people working in conservative media. At least a half-dozen talk conservative talk radio hosts who had staked out opposition to the COVID-19 vaccine have since died from it.

Berg, to my knowledge, hasn't had COVID-19, but he's seemingly willing to give up his television show over vaccine opposition.

That's a decision I'm struggling to understand.
