Alison Hauke, Hickson, Letter: Why can't the DJs just play the music?

Why is it every time I turn on the radio, I hear a disc jockey trying to purchase my ears? Like most people, when I turn on the radio, I'm looking for music or information, and depending on the person in front of the microphone, perhaps to listen to them. But these days I feel as if no matter what station I turn to, all I hear is "Win money, tell us what our secret sound is," "Win money if you have our bumper sticker," "Win money by listening all day." How about you just let me listen?

Is this how these people get ranked -by whoever throws the most money through the radio airwaves? How about you simply play the best music? How about you simply hire the most talented people? I don't own a business, but that seems like a more effective way to run one, if I say so myself.

Don't get me wrong, I like to try to be "caller nine" as much as everyone else. I've won a bar tab from Q98 and Jack Spade. I even won a Nintendo Wii from BOB 95 and Zero, but please stop telling me that if I listen to your radio station, I am going to suddenly be wealthy ... just play music.
