Does anyone else think that the whole "Click It or Ticket" campaign is absolutely ridiculous? I mean it's one thing to encourage people to buckle up, but to fine people for not wearing seat belts is a joke.
I am curious how my not wearing a seat belt in my own vehicle jeopardizes the safety of others, or costs the state any money. If you want to break it down, one could argue that by not wearing a seat belt, you actually are performing a service to the rest of your community. If by chance I were to be in an accident and get injured, I am actually providing job security for law enforcement officials, health-care providers and emergency personnel.
So if people think wearing a seat belt is so important that we should fine people for not wearing one, then I feel that anyone riding a motorcycle should be fined for not wearing a helmet. There is no way riding a motorcycle without a helmet is safer or less costly than me driving a full-size, four-door pickup, being fully enclosed with front and side curtain air bags.
