When I first read Orville Stenerson's letter in the May 21 Forum I thought it was meant to be satirical. But after reading it a second time, I believe he's serious. I still can't decide if he is naive or simply ignorant.
Because I ate bacon with my eggs and wore blue jeans instead of a burka, I posed a threat to the Muslim religious teachings and practices. And the only way the Muslims could combat this threat was to hijack airplanes and crash them into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania.
Stenerson then asks if we shouldn't "modify" our behavior out of consideration for Islamic tradition and "morality"! What morality? These fanatics did not represent the Muslims of the world, and it is outrageous that he dares to imply that we got what we deserved.
Stenerson says Muslims are offended by gross sensuality in our media. Would that be R-rated American movies Muslims are forced to view? They are also forbidden to drink alcohol. But did you know what rewards await a martyr in paradise? "Many virgins and rivers of wine." Any Muslim male who dies while killing infidels to the glory of Allah (Jihad) is rewarded in paradise with rivers of wine and he's allowed to "deflower 72 virginal houris." A houri is defined as a beautiful, voluptuous maiden. Is it any wonder so many young Muslims don't hesitate to strap explosives to their bodies and then set them off in a crowd of innocent women and children?
On 9/11 a handful of Muslim extremists chose to murder over 3,000 innocents. Most of the world wept along with America but after reading Stenerson's letter it sounds as if he thinks we owe the extremists an apology.
