Gary Emineth, a Republican state Senate candidate from the Bismarck area, is also the organizer behind what will be Measure 2 on our general election ballots later this year. It’s the constitutional amendment to ban non-citizen voting in North Dakota (you can read it in full here).

That sort of voting is already illegal by statute, but Emineth and the measure’s supporters argue that a constitutional ban is necessary to ensure that it isn’t allowed in the future as has been the case in some local elections in other parts of the country.

Today Emineth shared with me polling results from the Remington Research Group (they have a “C” rating from FiveThirtyEight.com, and a slight Democratic bias) which indicates that a very large majority of North Dakotans support a ban on non-citizen voting.
