Winner: Jim Shaw
Veteran newsman Jim Shaw has reclaimed his title of "Best Newspaper Columnist" in the Red River Valley for 2019.
"It's a real thrill. It's wonderful to know my columns are connecting with the readers and are having a real impact," Shaw said.
Shaw, who worked as a television reporter for WDAY-TV and news director at KVRR-TV, before becoming a columnist for "The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead in 2014," said it might take him weeks to write a given column because of the research that goes into them. He said diving into a topic and providing the public with the information it needs to know is his favorite part of his job.
A native of Newton, Massachusetts, Shaw has made Fargo home for more than 40 years. He said he likes the friendliness of the people here and he hopes people think of him as "honest and fair."

Shaw said the most memorable story for him this year and the one that solicited some of the most feedback from readers was the Father's Day column he wrote about the difficult births of his and wife Jackie's children.
