As the summer travel season quickly approaches, it is frustrating and disappointing that the U.S. Senate has still failed to pass a comprehensive Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization package. Two weeks ago, the Senate voted 88-0 to consider this important legislation. Unfortunately, the bill quickly fell victim to procedural gimmicks and partisan wrangling and has been put on hold.
This vital measure contains significant steps to increase ground and airspace capacity, such as:
- Airport construction funds.
- Funds for the development of new air traffic control technology.
- Provisions to stabilize the depleted controller workforce.

It is time for the Senate to take FAA reauthorization out of its holding pattern and address the rights of air passengers - the FAA's true customers - to a safer and much more efficient system. America can't afford another delay.
