Dawn Morgan deserves election to the Fargo City Commission on Tuesday.

Morgan is a Fargo native and a North Dakota State University alum, having graduated in 1970 with a degree in English. After a few years of teaching, Morgan became an entrepreneur, launching her own interior design firm, Morganstar Design, which specializes in renovating historic properties. She has also published a regional literary journal and opened the Spirit Room Gallery on Broadway.

Morgan's active service to Fargo city government stretches over many years. She was a charter member of the Historic Preservation Commission, helped write a new land development code in 1996-1997, served on the Streetscape Committee for the Redesign of Broadway, served as a consultant to the Fargo Housing Authority and chaired the Broadway Square Subcommittee for the International Design Competition.

Morgan has made time in her busy life as a businesswoman to serve the community in other ways, as well. For nearly 10 years, she has been president of the Fargo-Moorhead Heritage Society and serves as president of the Scandinavian Hjemkomst Festival. She is organizer of the Jefferson Neighborhood Association and she has worked to provide housing for newcomers to our community.

In her activities as a businesswoman and a public servant, Morgan has demonstrated long-term commitment to preserving what makes our city a wonderful place to live while preparing it for a future of growth and increased diversity. As The Forum noted in its editorial of May 30, there is no question that Morgan is qualified to serve. A vote for Morgan is a vote for experienced, committed, insightful leadership on the Fargo City Commission. Please give Morgan your vote on Tuesday.
