The city of Moorhead sanitation workers always do an awesome job, but they work especially hard during Clean Up Week.
Clean Up Week, traditionally the first week in May, is that wonderful time of the year when "trash to treasures" are placed on the boulevards, and "curb shoppers" cruise for "good junk." The sanitation workers put in many extra, long, hard hours to pick up the discarded items. They don't mind the extra work, and they do a fantastic job, but because of their long days, they started a tradition of their own: they all contribute money to purchase food, and they cook it for themselves during Clean Up Week.
It was reported by the news media that the city of Moorhead provided a steak lunch for the sanitation workers during Clean Up Week, but that was not the case. The workers - members of AFSCME Local # 1450 - purchased and cooked the meal themselves. The pies and cakes that were delivered were donated by Hornbachers, who is always very generous to the community, and they were greatly appreciated.
There are no "free lunches" for Moorhead city employees!
