Karen Vetter expressed some concerns about R-rated videos and DVDs in the adult collection at the Southpointe Branch Library (letter, July 20). The branch has a small but growing video and DVD collection. Material is selected in accordance with the Fargo Public Library's collection development policy.

The library strives to provide a balanced collection that appeals to a wide range of ages and interests and fulfills informational, recreational, lifelong learning and research needs.

Southpointe does include video materials that carry the R rating, however, the majority of the total Southpointe collection has the G, PG and PG-13 rating. Many excellent films are rated R and the demand for them is high. No children's videos are rated R. Recent purchases have tended toward Academy Award winners, many of which are R-rated. More family-type movies are on order and should arrive soon.
