In reference to the "Safe zone" in Wednesday's (Sept. 21) Forum: We have children, and I'm in total favor of the safe zone. However, a sexual predator will find a way, but this is still a great move. The article indicated that they will not have housing if the bill is passed.
Anyone labeled as a Level III sex offender should stay in a hospital or correctional institution for the rest of their lives. When they get out, all we're doing is waiting for them to strike again. Professionals have determined that Level III offenders will strike again and yet we continue to free them.
Constitutional or not, we are treading on ground that hasn't been explored yet. These people have their own level of terrorism. We as parents must come together to ensure that high risk offenders don't ever re-enter society again.
In addition, capital punishment should be looked at again in North Dakota and our neighboring states so we don't have to search for some federal reason why we can put someone to death. At least put the death penalty back on the table for discussion.
The tone of my letter indicates how I feel about sexual predators. They terrorize their victims for their own pleasure with no remorse. They prey on the weak and murder without hesitation.

Society has changed over the years and has not changed for the better. We must update our laws and become more aggressive against the predators in our society. We must challenge rulings that protect predators, press our lawmakers for stiffer punishments and do everything possible to keep predators out of society.
I applaud Jennifer Chalupnik for her leadership. Let's all follow her example.
