PRAIRIE ROSES: To the Moorhead High School Student Council and particularly three empowering young women, Annise Montplaisir, Ama Fredrickson and Olivia Bergh, for their involvement in spearheading and producing "Beautiful to the Core," an empowerment event geared toward middle school- and high school-age girls. With the guidance of their student council advisers, a teacher and the assistance of fellow student council members, these dedicated women joined forces to bring forward a message to all young women that their beauty and strength comes from within. The amount of time and energy exerted by Annise, Ama and Olivia to schedule speakers, line up sponsors for the event, solicit door prizes, distribute posters and everything else involved was phenomenal. Speakers Dawn Gunderson, Dr. Susan Mathison, Chris Linnares and Ajit Berg presented powerful messages and should also be commended. Many young women were offered guidance and inspiration at this event to appreciate their inner beauty and how to attain their full potential. With such perseverance and dedication, these young women have a bright future ahead of them.
PRAIRIE ROSES: To all those involved in the Fargo Marathon, one of the most successful marathons in the spring event's nine-year run. The reviews are in from runners, volunteers and even casual observers, and it's all as positive as it can be. Comments of high praise from experienced marathoners are especially meaningful because those competitors run in nearly every state. The Fargo Marathon not only measures up - it exceeds marathon standards. Of special note - and one of the most praised characteristics of the local event - is the community support for the several running events. The people who live near and on the marathon route turned out in record numbers along nearly every mile of the course. It's become a genuine spring festival, and the runners and their supporters who travel to Fargo really noticed the spirit of the community.
