Birding (what the uninitiated call bird-watching) takes center stage in central North Dakota this weekend. The Potholes and Prairie Birding Tour begins today and continues through Sunday.
It's a family event that includes birding (of course), airboat rides, swimming and seminars on wildlife, sketching, artistry and photography. The tours -- centered at Jamestown, Carrington and Steele -- will take place at Arrowwood, Chase Lake, Slade and Long Lake national wildlife refuges. The refuges hold some of the most spectacular concentrations of waterfowl and other birds on the continent.
The birding tours on the refuges are especially appropriate this year as the national wildlife refuge system celebrates its 100th birthday. Moreover, the three-day event highlights the unlimited potential of birding and other eco-tourism activities in North Dakota.
Applause to Birding Tours of Jamestown for coordinating the event.
