Congratulations to all the candidates -- winners and losers -- in Tuesday's election. The decision to run for public office is, in itself, a courageous act. Conducting campaigns is hard work, whether on the local level or in a statewide race.
Tuesday's winners -- newcomers and incumbents -- have taken on a serious responsibility. The decisions they make will affect lives and pocketbooks. Their conduct as public figures will be open to scrutiny by the media, but more importantly, by their constituents.
All of them deserve our thanks for their willingness to work for the public good in elected office.
