A few deer leave their fertilizer droppings on lawns, munch some vegetation and people grab their arms to do battle. (See "Fargoan targets city deer" - Friday, Sept. 30) It's hard to believe these self-styled vigilantes when they say their only goal is to clean up the environment. Humans are much more destructive to the environment than deer, but little is said about controlling the human species.
Look at the effects of humans on the environment - mountains of trash, discarded batteries, atomic waste, oil spills, hair spray containers, mercury poisoning to name a few. The deer generate none of these.
I wish those who decry animal overpopulation would spend at least a percentage of their efforts trying to decrease human overpopulation. One of the reasons may be the only way they know how to solve a problem is with a gun.
