United Blood Services has been calling out for help. There is a shortage of blood.

I remind myself, whoever is in need is someone's co-worker, friend or close loved one. And that person in need could be someone I know or someone close to me.

Looking back for years, I was a real "chicken." As family members joined the ranks of people fighting cancer and other illnesses, I began to give. Now, after 20 pints, it feels good to know someone is being helped by my effort.

You may know someone who has received blood. You may be one of the heroes who has already responded to the United Blood Service call. If you are, thank you. Yours may have been the blood that saved one of my loved ones. If you have never responded, try it...you may like it.
