Sick! Sick! Sick! For people in our region to be so filled with hate against homosexuals. I was astonished to see an opinion page (June 16) filled with so much fear, loathing and intolerance.
Let's start with the letter from Keith and Jennifer Silverman. Although they claim to not be anti-gay, they go on to compare homosexual's lifestyles with pornography and swinging. Is that really what you think?
Next was the letter from Pam Hlady. She claims that homosexuality cannot be normal because it is not found in other animals and poses the question to "intellectual thinkers." Well, I hate to burst her ignorant bubble, but if she would open her eyes and take a look at the data on the subject, it is clear the birds do it, the bees do it, as well as beetles, sheep, bats, dolphins and orangutans, just to start. As an intellectual thinker, I look for facts, not make them up to suit my own beliefs.
And what about Otto Helweg? He compares homosexuals to pedophiles. I wonder if he has ever looked up the statistics about how high the rates of child sexual abuse are with heterosexuals! And what is the point of bringing up adultery and sadomasochism? Again, have you taken a look in the heterosexual mirror?
And I would ask Dottie Ness if she really believes that praying can cure homosexuality.

I must ask each and every one of you how you would feel if everything were suddenly reversed? What if heterosexuality was the "deviant" lifestyle and you were told your inner core identity needs to be changed? As someone with family members and friends who are gay, I find the outpouring of ignorance and hate to be abominable.
Finally, I want to thank Cheryl Bergian for her pointed and positive letter. I hope all will read her words and consider the consequences intolerant attitudes have on our loved ones who happen to be gay.
