I attended North Dakota State University's production of "Fiddler on the Roof" on Feb. 20 and I must say it was absolutely remarkable. Everything about the production, from the set and costume designs, to the music and choreography, to casting and performances, was top notch.
The play "Fiddler on the Roof" is set in 1905 in the rural Jewish town of Anatevka, Russia. This play's main focus is tradition and the way each character reacts to changes.
Throughout the play, the sense of how life runs in this small community, from sunrise to sunset, is established. Teyve, a dairyman, and his wife Golde are raising five daughters by the strictest rules of tradition. But his love for his daughters and their happiness causes Teyve to question some of their traditions.
Steve Stark who starred as Teyve is a multitalented actor. Viewers saw his faith in God, his tremendous love for his family, and finally his heartbreak as the changes in the community stray from tradition. "Fiddler on the Roof" is a classic which director/choreographer Dr. Pam Chabora brought to life from the first scene to the heartrending and poignant conclusion.
