A few weeks ago, I was reading The Forum's feature article where it was put upfront that Gov. John Hoeven used to be a Democrat. Since then, I have brought up this issue with my Republican friends and asked them if this is widely known.
Most people do not seem to know this, but many reacted with a very similar response: "He sure spends like a Democrat."
So I started looking into it, and Hoeven sure has spent like a Democrat. State spending has skyrocketed over 50 percent in the past four years, and has doubled in the past nine years. This is not a sign of a conservative management style, which is what we need in Washington to fix the mess.
I cannot make it to the state convention, but I hope my Republican friends will keep the facts about Hoeven's tenure in mind.
