The stakes are high in every election. Candidates work very hard for each vote they get. When candidates use misinformation in their advertising to get those votes, they may win the contest but, not the confidence of the public. The crown jewel of any democracy is voting and fewer and fewer eligible voters are participating in the electoral process.
Given the amount of money spent on campaigns, presumably designed to encourage voter turnout, it would seem that negative advertising which discourages many voters would be counterproductive.
I am happy to see that Rep. Earl Pomeroy, D-N.D., has begun to take the higher road and is beginning to clean up his new TV ads.
This action shows respect for the North Dakota voter.
