I am writing this letter in regards to an article I saw in The Forum. Ross Nelson of Casselton, N.D., has finally spoke out against something that has been a major issue for many teens. The police departments in the Fargo and West Fargo area seem to follow certain vehicles around town. I understand that they are just doing their job, but I believe they can find other ways to do this.

I drive a sports car and I feel that police are mainly on the lookout for these types of cars. They always seem to look very closely into the car when I pass by. When I am with friends that have a "family vehicle" they don't seem to pay that much attention. From past experience and talking to friends, they always seem to pull over the teen-agers.

I also believe a major problem is the discrimination towards teen-agers. Just because we are young does not mean that we are speeding or driving illegally. I see why they patrol the area of school during lunch and after school, but I do not believe that they need three or four cops in a block radius. There are many more people they can catch speeding on 13th Avenue then they will in a school area with kids walking on the streets everywhere.

Police need to do their job catching criminals, giving speeding tickets, watching out for our well-being and to stop thinking that every teen-ager is up to no good.
