I am a Boy Scout and I am working on my Hornaday Award. One of my projects was to help clean up an area that is a historical site called Probsfield Farm, north of Moorhead. It is on a hill that is close to the river and gets a lot of garbage piled up from the floods and from some people dumping their garbage at the site.

I have taken three trips to this site to pick up garbage and we still have more bottles to pick up. We have found everything from washers and dryers from the early '90s to glass cosmetic bottles that date back to the 1950s. One Boy Scout that came along to help clean up, opened a bottle of breath spray, it had a very strong odor, and all that day it smelt like a breath spray gone bad. We came back the following week and that mint odor was still there.

It is amazing how many people don't care, and made a dump out of this historical site. Some parts of this "garbage site" are beyond repair, and it is because of our carelessness and our lack of commitment to keep our natural society and our community clean, that this place is a mess. It is only when people come to the conclusion that nature isn't always going to fix itself, that we then can make our community a cleaner and nicer place. I want to help our community become more aware of our carelessness and make it a better place to live.
