I have a young son named Tom (lives in Alberta) and he always gets into a bind but somehow gets out of it and comes out smelling like a rose, even though he upsets a lot of people in the process. Me in particular.
It's hard to believe that Tom Szymanski is even close to my son, so why has KVLY-TV fired him? Because they need a new look?
The guy delivers the weather like a pro and even does commercials and charitable work for kids in the area that even I envy.
I got it! The station owners (from Texas, I believe) can't stand the junk on their networks (soaps and local news) and need to do something to save their own miserable butts?
How about become TV creative and dump in some good programming in the afternoons or just after lunch or dinner to help the advertisers and even get new ones? Since I do not know all the nitty-gritty details of "Bad Weather Tom's firing" after 15 years of loyal service, it would be unfair of me to stir the pot. However, I believe that 6-foot-10 Tom deserves a bit of slack here.

He is the only weather person on local TV that I rely on when I decide to fly my little airplane from Moorhead Airport the next day or week. His accuracy in calling the weather is good and better than most of his competitors.
Whatever the reason, bring Szymanski back, KVLY-TV, and give him more to do than just the weather. I'll bet a case of DalWhinnie scotch that he can do the job. And if booze is a problem I'll change the bet to something more appropriate to get Szymanski the weather he needs that he has so faithfully delivered to everybody else in Fargo for the last 15 years.
