Since moving out of the Red River Valley seven months ago, I have gained an appreciation for the online edition of The Forum.
Mike McFeely's column on April 29 entitled, "Loyalty to school, or a logo?" was one of the most disappointing columns I have read.
As a sports columnist, one would think McFeely would have an understanding of the sense of tradition and loyalty a fan develops cheering on a favorite team. Even more, the love and compassion one develops for his or her alma mater.
The University of North Dakota is not only where I earned my undergraduate degree, but it's also where my parents met while earning their undergraduate degrees. They later married and my father continued his education at UND, earning his law degree. UND is where my sister followed in our father's footsteps, earning her law degree. In addition, it is where my brother is currently studying chemistry with the hope of attending the university's School of Medicine in the future.
The truth is the university, the athletic program and the logo are inseparable. This tradition of superior academics and athletics is deeply rooted in the families of North Dakota.
