Shame on The Forum and whomever approved the cartoon that appeared on the opinion page on Oct. 14. In it a father and son are looking at the majestic beauty of a starlit sky while the father says "Sure, God created all this, but even intelligent designers screw up! That's how we wound up with Karl Rove!"
This is typical of political cartoonist Don Wright of the Palm Beach Post, whose style often seems to be that of belittling people he doesn't agree with. Whatever Rove did or failed to do properly is certainly a legitimate topic for discussion; but if a person disagrees with someone else's views then let them say so and why. To simply mock the other person, however, is cheap. Certainly the editors of The Forum receive enough reasonable opinion pieces that they don't need to stoop to this kind of unprofessional personal belittlement.
While I'm pleased to see that Wright's cartoon gives God the credit for creating the world, he's wrong if he thinks that it was God who "screwed up" the design. We humans can take the blame for that one. Thankfully we have a very forgiving creator.
