We just received our 2005 property tax bill and again the increased valuation went up by thousands and our actual real estate tax bill jumped over $200 and none of that amount is for specials. Since the year 2000, the valuation on our home has increased $39,400.
When are the property owners of Fargo going to say "enough is enough"?
We love our home and the area, but there are other cities with these amenities and lower property taxes. My husband and I are on a fixed income and cannot justify these outrageous increases, which take a huge chunk out of our budget. We hear the same old rhetoric about the need to increase home valuations to keep pace with the selling prices of current home sales. Why does this have to be done until our home is sold? Does it cost that much more for the same level of service? Extras such as street resurfacing, stop lights installed close to our home, etc., are all billed and paid separately.
There is talk of using sales tax monies for property tax relief. Citizens of Fargo, don't be conned into this sales tax use until there is a reduction in property taxes, otherwise we will have just another sales tax increase.
If anyone else feels as we do, please express your views by writing letters, calling radio stations or get involved in a Property Tax Relief Committee to voice your concerns.
