Al Carlson, in several letters to the editor, has attacked the Initiated Measure, or as it's sometimes called, the Youth Investment Initiative. This is the same man who supported the Bush tax reduction as a means to stimulate the economy. Because of that tax reduction, the Bush administration is raiding Social Security to pay its bills.

Now, Mr. Carlson says we can't afford to stimulate the North Dakota economy and, believe me, keeping our most intelligent young kids here at home would stimulate the economy.

Mr. Carlson can't have it both ways. First, we have to stimulate the economy. Now, we can't afford to stimulate the economy. Well, I feel we can't afford to keep taking money out of Social Security, but we certainly can afford to make an effort to keep North Dakota youngsters here with us.
