In response to Rob Port's column, " Schools shouldn't have excused students for anti-gun protests ," published March 18:

First of all, who is going to take a stand in school violence? Port has taken to calling student organizers and Women's March Youth Empower as left wing groups that orchestrated the walkout. As we have seen in the past, politicians have not taken a stand. Should the murder of our children be political when the parents of these children are both Republican and Democrat?

Commentary is important but leave the extreme hatred for one party out of the conversation. Children have school and parents have work or other commitments, but they're expect to all return home safely.

Making a reference that more kids die walking or riding their bikes to school each year is a cold and callous comparison. How can you compare accidents to murder?

Port also stated violent crime numbers are down. Contributing factors could be an increase in officers, better computer tracking systems, improved economy, and the number of incarcerated in our prisons. I believe 100 percent in the Second Amendment, but that was adopted on Dec 15, 1791. Flintlocks and muskets were the prominent weapon. At that time it would have taken 100 armed shooters to create a mass shooting that today can be accomplished with just one.
