Ms. Cramer: I was not, as you apparently were, sitting in the gallery of the chamber of the United States House of Representatives during President Trump's address to both chambers of Congress. But I did read about your husband's nasty comments about women wearing white, a nod to the women's suffrage movement in the United States, and had the occasion to read your defense of his comments in The Forum March 7.

I suggest you'd benefit from studying the history of the movement before you cast stones on those honoring the women who fought dearly for a fair and equal say in the political governance of our state and country.

In North Dakota, it was not until the Nonpartisan League (NPL) came to power that women's suffrage gained the support needed to pass laws granting women the right to vote for the president of the United States. That was in 1917. Even then, it was not until 1920 that the United States Congress ratified the 19th Amendment to the Constitution guaranteeing women across our country the right to vote.

While your husband needs serious educating on issues pertaining to the devastating environmental destruction facing our state, country and world, it would appear that you need an equally serious education on the history of our country and the people who pioneered the way to ensuring full political participation by women in charting its destiny.
