Even as a person of faith, I disagree with the conclusions of Roxane Salonen regarding her stance on reaction to the Parkland, Fla., shooting in her March 4 column .
Salonen wrote "We need action, yes, but first, prayer." We as a nation have heard countless elected official offer countless thoughts and prayers for mass shootings such as this. For example, after the Orlando nightclub shooting: Pres. Obama offered ". . . thoughts and prayers." After the South Carolina church shooting: Jeb Bush and Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., stated that they were ". . .praying for everyone."
After the Parkland shooting, Pres. Trump sent his " . . .prayers and condolences to the families . . "
Ms. Salonen, the requirement for prayer that you advocate has been met. Officials around the country have offered survivors their prayers too many times already. Now is the acceptable time for action. Now is the acceptable time to no longer simply pray, but to find real solutions. We have prayed, and now is the time to act.
