The Koch brothers, Donald Trump and Republicans are trying to destroy the Veterans Affairs health system by privatizing it through the Mission Care Act of 2018. Trump knocked the VA as 25,000 retired snowbird vets came into Phoenix and had to wait for appointments.

The individuals mentioned want to privatize VA health care even though the cost might be 30% higher than the same care at the VA. Also, about 30 cents of every health care dollar spent in the US goes for over-treatment. The Mission Act is unfunded, so money is taken from VA hospitals and clinics.

Small town doctors and hospitals would love to serve veterans who are hypochondriacs. Who cares about the chronic conditions of veterans? Do they deserve to wait 7 to 8 weeks for treatment from a doctor the VA cannot afford to hire? By the year 2000, between 50 to 75% of veterans had drug and alcohol abuse problems.

Trump and Republicans do not want to fill the 49,000 vacancies at the VA since they do not want to pay higher taxes. The Koch brothers, Trump and Republicans want to save that money for weapons, while privatizing health care and destroying the VA.

The best thing about the VA is it has integration of health care. "The primary care team may refer a patient with diabetes or PTSD, to talk to a nutritionist about a diet, a pharmacist about how to correctly administer insulin, or a mental health professional, all of whom are just down the hall. Services like audiology, physical therapy or dermatology may be provided to the veteran on the same day."

I have always been very satisfied with my VA experience. I have been seen within 5 minutes of my arrival at the clinic. I never had a long wait for an appointment within the VA.
