Regarding the murmurs of approval voting, the simple fact is that when more than five people are running for two open seats then the likelihood of anyone getting over 50 percent of the vote is not reality.
There were nine candidates for two seats on the Fargo City Commission and 10 candidates for the Fargo School Board. I believe most voters believe the person who gets the most votes wins, and then the person who got the second highest number of votes gets the other seat. Why make the voting system more complex with some social-engineering idea called approval voting? Commissioner Dave Piepkorn was correct when he said no one else is using the approval vote and he does not want to be the guinea pig. I agree. Leave our voting system alone.
