Today I received my Cass County absentee ballot application. I noticed that all there was to mail was a card, with all the completed information visible on back. This information included name, date of birth, driver's license number and signature. I believe a driver's license number is considered by the federal government as a piece of personal identifying information, not quite a Social Security Number but something that can be used to verify identity. Yet the Cass County Auditor's office thinks it is appropriate to have this information visibly exposed? We can have faith in our postal workers all we want, but The Forum ran a story just this week about the sentencing of a Moorhead postal worker for mail theft.

In this era of increased identity theft, I'm personally not taking the chance.
