As the Fargo-Moorhead community gathered at The Stage at Island Park last month, an extraordinary experience with two legendary North Dakotans took place.
Captivating the audience, North Dakota’s first and only billionaire, Gary Tharaldson, and former University of Mary president, Sister Thomas Welder, spoke with gratitude about their philosophies on servant leadership during “Living Legends Day” at 1 Million Cups Fargo.
It was fascinating to see how the distinct paths of these two “Living Legends” converged and brought them to the same stage. One an educator with an unprecedented gift to connect with others and the other an ultra-successful businessman who developed an innovative approach to teamwork, Tharaldson and Welder each credit their lifelong successes to servant leadership.
As fellow leaders, there are many lessons to be learned from them, but what it comes down to is this:
- Lead with vision
- Listen with humility
- Support your employees
With immense gratitude, I’d like to thank Greg Tehven and the team at Emerging Prairie for connecting the community with such remarkable leaders. It was an incredible experience for all in attendance.
