I like myself more today. In fact, I like everyone more today. I like the people in my church more today. I like my community more today. I like people I just met whom I never met before. And, I feel closer to God today.
Why do I feel this way? It's because I just saw approximately 10,000 people, donating two hours of their time, to package food at Scheels Arena. It took place over a three-day period and was orchestrated by a Christian nonprofit organization called Feed My Starving Children. It feeds starving kids in more than 70 countries, and is done with almost all volunteer help and donations. We receive no government help.
Many people and organizations gave their time and/or money to feed families around the world. Close to 40 churches, 20-some schools, countless businesses, families, moms, dads, kids, grandparents, Girl and Boy Scouts, Rotary, Kiwanis, numerous high school and college sport teams, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, 4-H, and just plan old individuals got involved and made the world a little better.
I believe we put a smile on God's face because we are following his directions. The Bible is full of directions to love our neighbor and help those who are down and out. Next Jan. 29-31, we'll pack again. Will you join us? Will you help us raise money to pay the grocery bill?
It's hard to explain the peace and joy I receive from knowing that I am a spoke in the wheel that moves toward God and a spoke that moves toward making a better world. Please consider joining our local leadership team. Many hands make for light work. If interested, call 701-730-5860.
