I would like to thank Felix Falwell ("Surviving the coronavirus" published March 20) for his wisdom on surviving the virus: eat healthier, get daily exercise and plenty of sleep.

Because we will have a flu season every year I would suggest a few more words of advice to improve your odds of living a long and healthy life:

  • Please stop smoking and vaping cigarettes and marijuana.
  • Please reduce or eliminate your alcohol consumption.
  • Please lose excess weight to reduce our 42 % adult obesity rate.

We hear the term "underlying health conditions" on a daily basis, but nothing about the poor health habits of our citizens. Our aging population and poor health condition will make our nation increasingly vulnerable in future flu seasons.
