In response to the letter, "Ages 20 to 39 just don't care," by John Trelstad published July 26:

I want to tell you that most of my friends fall in that age range, and I think I know why and how it is spreading so much. Most of my friends within that age range work in bars, restaurants or have to work with the general public. They have to work, and I shouldn’t have to explain why.

Now the claim that we don’t care feels overly critical of our age group. We have little choice but to work so that we don’t get evicted, few employers provide regular testing for their staff and rely on the workers themselves to get tested. If there were better laws in place to protect workers in our state, those numbers would very likely be lower.
