In regards to Curt Erickson's June 5th column featuring North Dakota native Gen Wald on major issues facing the U.S., I found there are two points of interest that he is in conflict with our entire U.S. legislative team. Those are our dependence on fossil fuels and our reluctance to address climate change.

There was no wavering by Wald. For our own security we have to reduce our dependence on oil and fully address climate change. Fossil fuels are one of the biggest factors leading to climate change, which in turn destabilizes the world.

What we need in North Dakota is a champion for our future generations so that our children and their children can say we did our best to tackle this huge world security concern. I see little of that in our present leadership.
