In response to the letter, "Blame Democrats for the spike in your utility bill," by Robert Goren:
Goren wrote, "Wind and solar can't nearly meet the demand and it all falls on natural gas causing prices to skyrocket."
This is incorrect. Wind and solar performed exactly to their specifications during the Texas cold snap. What failed was Texas' fossil fuel infrastructure, which, despite warnings, had never been made resilient to that kind of cold, resulting in massive system failures.
The blame for the gas spike lies with ERCOT and the Texas state government for neglecting to insulate their fossil fuel infrastructure from the cold.
