In response to the story, "Wary of new ethics rules, ND lobbyists rethink plans for legislator receptions," published Dec. 14:
Why are these people so opposed to Measure 1? If they're not doing anything wrong -- like lining the pockets of politicians with special gifts and meals to get what they want -- they have nothing to worry about.
I suggest that North Dakota lawmakers quit dragging their feet and establish an oversight committee made up of registered Independents from around the state. That way we won't have the fox watching the hen house.
Measure 1 would be great for all 50 states, as well as Washington, D.C. If implemented, our politicians might be more careful and give an ear to all the people instead of lobbyists and special interest groups.
