President-elect Biden and reporters proclaim this will be the most diverse cabinet in U.S. history. Not yet.
The best description of diversity, that is so valuable on a board or in an administration, I have heard came from a candidate I interviewed for an appointment. He said diversity on a board is like making soup. If all you have is potatoes, you don’t have soup. If you have potatoes and water, you have lousy soup. You need other ingredients. But just because two ingredients look the same doesn’t mean they have the same influence on the soup, a chunk of turnip and a chunk of horseradish look remarkably the same.
Heidi Heitkamp, when mentioned as in the mix for appointment, caused a letter, signed by organizations, to be generated against her.
There, so far, is no diversity of thought on the list of cabinet appointments. If Democrat Heidi Heitkamp is too far right for the position of ag secretary, we are in for a pretty one-sided thought process.
