In response to Rob Port's column, " Do we really want to empower casual voting? ," published June 3:
Port is assuming that voting by mail is more casual than in-person voting and that is not always the case. As someone who enjoyed vote-by-mail in Oregon for 16 years, it was a nice change to be able to spend more time researching candidates at home with my ballot in front of me.
If Port is so concerned people being dis-engaged from politics voting, should we give voters a test on current events to ensure they are “engaged” in politics?
