For the past couple of months, Minnesotans have been watching images of an angry Black woman on their television screens screaming to dismantle the police. Afterward we were reassured that if we voted for Rep. Michelle Fischbach, R-Minn., America would be saved from radicals.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t feel like Fischbach has kept her promise to protect America from radicals, but rather participated in decisions that further support radical violence to dismantle our democracy.
Ironically, after she was elected and the tin foil hats stormed the U.S. Capitol to suppress the will of the people, Fischbach participated in efforts to object to state certification results despite previously being rushed out of danger for her safety from the ensuing mob only hours beforehand. She also voted not to impeach the president who incited the whole violent and tragic event.
Right now, this is literally the moment when we need leadership to protect our democracy from being destroyed. I cannot think of any greater imminent threat to the existence of our democracy than the one we are experiencing now. Instead, I think that Fischbach has participated in decisions that further support radical violence that have resulted in the death of a police officer and do not improve our protection from threats to our democracy to have a peaceful transfer of power to the next president as described in our sacred Constitution.
If we really want to unite as a country, we need action from everybody to remove the threat to our democracy and make sure that Donald Trump never holds public office ever again and that nobody impedes our sacred democratic processes. I see any efforts to impede us from reaching that goal as being un-American and treasonous. Defending America from threats to our democracy is what unites us together and makes us Americans.
