I am responding to Mr. Hempeck's letter to the editor regarding his sarcastic e motional goodbye to Mr. Hennen . He states that any fact-based, forward-thinking Minnesotan will not miss him. What about the forward-thinking 19,400 other citizens that left Minnesota in 2022? " New Census Bureau data show that our State smashed this (exodus) record in 2022. From mid-2021 to mid-2022, 19,400 Minnesota residents left for other states, ....by far the highest number in at least three decades ," according to the American Experiment.
You must ask yourself, what's changed? Were these citizens also forward thinking in seeing that the progressive politics of their state were no longer showing positive effects on their pocket-book finances or philosophies, thus forcing an exodus? I'm sure the remainder of the citizens will find no harm in picking up the increased tax load that the state may need to maintain the quality of life (benefits) expected by forward-thinking residents. Right now Minnesota ranks fifth in the "highest income tax bracket" and one of only 11 states that taxes your Social Security income, in a Democrat-controlled government. These statistics alone might represent a reason for exodus. As the saying goes, "last one out, turn off the lights."
And, before you criticize, I also pay a fair amount of Minnesota property taxes.
