I just read yet another letter online about how the North Dakota Legislature should raise taxes on cigarettes again. First of all, this is regressive tax on the lower income population as they smoke at a higher rate. Why are all these people and paid companies constantly pressuring us to do this? Well, for companies and nonprofits it is to continue to have jobs and raise money for their "cause."
Last time I checked, I don't need the government telling us what we should and should not do.
If that is the case, we need to triple the cost of soft drinks and fast foods. We should tax people who don't work out and stay in shape. We should triple the taxes on alcohol. Look at all the cost on society that brings.
Also, she mentioned health care bearing the burden, well how about getting those cost under control also?
My point is this: I don't need taxes on things we are know are bad for us because that is just the beginning of an endless cascade of taxes and regulations on the American public.

Last time I checked it doesn't say anywhere in the Constitution about dictating how we all should live.
